CHAPTER SIX

Liam entered the room quietly. Sarah, Wyn’s nanny, had warned him his wife was taking a nap. He knew she had been strung up tighter than the cords on a guitar. Trying not to wake her, he walked carefully towards the sound of her small snores.

She must have been tired if she was snoring. He sat on her side of the bed carefully hoping the slight dip of the bed wouldn’t wake her. His weight on the bed had her rolling towards him. He stiffened as she moved closer her left hand curling around his waist. He held his breath for a couple of seconds then exhaled and touched her face to caress her cheeks. The softness of her smooth skin reminded him of a baby’s. She sighed and turned her head, so her lips made contact with the inside of his palm. His breathing sped up, the action may have been unconscious, but it was so stimulating it sent a jolt through him.

Why was it she was the only female who could make him want to combust when he was around her? Just a sigh or an innocent kiss and his body reacted on cue. He had never taken so many cold showers in his life until he had met her. It was torture sleeping in the same bed and not being able to touch her, admittedly he was to blame for the way he was feeling he had gotten scared and panicked after realizing that his feelings for his wife were growing. He had being pushing her away since, and even though he knew she was hurting it was better to do it now than having her fall in love with him and get hurt in the long run. He stopped torturing himself and began to sleep on the couch in the next room. He tried to move out of her half embrace to leave, but her hand tightened on reflex. Biting the inside of his jaw, he tried once more and failed.

“Stay” she murmured sleepily. The single word had him looking down at her even if he couldn’t see her. A frown marred his face. He knew he should move away from her, but her sleepy plea and the way she felt curled up at his side made him bite his tongue and hold onto her. Only for a few minutes, he told himself. He was already rock hard. He kicked his shoes off and laid down next to her. He kissed her forehead the buried his nose in the silky curls he had come to love. Curls he remembered running his hands through and had teased his body when they had made love. He closed his eyes trying to block out the memories of their lovemaking that tortured him for the past weeks. As hard as he tried to forget, it was all he could think of. He’d never been addicted to anything in his life until he met her. She was becoming his obsession, and he wasn’t sure if that was a good thing.
